Tinubu Plans to Bar Customs, NPA, others From Revenue Collection

President Bola Tinubu may bar revenue-generating agencies from collecting revenues on behalf of the Federal Government as he plans to introduce a single agency – Nigeria Revenue Service – to handle the task. This came as the Federal Government instituted a comprehensive set of fresh tax reforms aimed at significantly boosting revenue collection. The reforms, designed to enhance the efficiency of collecting direct taxes, along with various levies that are imposed on behalf of the government, will bar the Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Ports Authority, and 60 other revenue collection agencies from participating in revenue collection activities,.

NPA to Coordinate Crude Oil Sale in Naira, Refined Products Policy

The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, in collaboration with other agencies of government has concluded plans to implement crude sale in Naira for supply to Dangote’s Refinery and other refined products. Speaking at a meeting at the Lagos Headquarters of the NPA, it’s Managing Director, Dr. Abdulkadir Dantsoho said that the implementation of the Federal Government’s directive for the NPA to coordinate service provision from all regulatory, security, and other stakeholders for the smooth implementation of the initiative to sell crude oil and petroleum products to the Dangote Refinery in Naira has commenced.

The management of Lekki Port, the first deep-sea port in Nigeria, has taken delivery of two new state-of-the-art pilot boats, “PC Jalingo and PC Nadiya”, from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). Speaking on the significance of the two pilot boats’ delivery, the Managing Director of Lekki Port, Du Ruogang, explained that the new PC Jalingo and PC Nadiya would further enhance Lekki Port’s operational excellence by ensuring smooth and safe navigation of large vessels in and out of the port’s channel..

Customs Enhances Border Security with Acquisition of Cessna Grand Caravan

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has made a strategic advancement in its air surveillance capabilities by acquiring a Cessna Grand Caravan EX-208B. The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, inspected the new aircraft, September 20, 2024, in Bartlesville, Washington, USA, marking a significant milestone for the NCS’s air operations. Registered as 5N-BAA, the aircraft is equipped to boost the NCS’s air patrol and surveillance efforts. Powered by the robust PT6 Pratt and Whitney engine, the Cessna Grand Caravan is known for its rugged versatility, short-field takeoff and landing capabilities, and its ability to operate on remote airstrips—ideal for Nigeria’s border security operations.

Lagos Boat Accident Claims Multiple Lives

Tragedy struck in Imore town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, when two boats carrying 16 passengers each collided and capsized in the lagoon. At least 21 passengers are feared drowned. According to police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, 11 injured passengers were rescued and hospitalized. “On October 7, 2024, at about 7 pm, a distress call was received at the Ilashe Division reporting that two unregistered passenger boats, each carrying 16 passengers, allegedly collided in the middle of the lagoon at Imore town. As a result, the boats capsized, and the passengers drowned along with their goods.

Nigeria Customs Facilitates Export Worth $937m in Q3 2024

The Nigeria Customs Service, Lilypond Export Command, has announced that it facilitated export activities worth $937,357,129.90 for the third quarter of 2024.The Customs Area Controller, Lilypond, Ajibola Odusanya, disclosed that the amount was from agricultural and manufactured goods, representing a 407.05% when compared to the $184,880,029.35 recorded in Q2 2024. Comptroller Odusanya attributed the achievement to the enhanced efficiency following the consolidation of export seats at the Command.
