Following the incessant attacks on truck drivers, a development that has resulted in killing of drivers, extortion and damage to vehicles, truckers operating in the maritime industry have threatened to down tools if the authorities do not intervene in the matter. Speaking at a meeting, President of Lagos State Truck and Cargo Committee, LASTCOC, (a committee made up of various truck Unions and Associations) Mr. Lukmon Shittu said that most trucking and haulage businesses are running at a loss. Shittu also said that the activities of these criminals have led to a drastic increase of goods of good and services.

Women in the transport and logistics industry have been urged to embrace digital technology and strengthen their leadership skills to achieve greater success in the male-dominated field. This call was made by the former Minister of Aviation, Dr. Kema Chikwe, at the Twelfth Women in Logistics and Transports (WiLAT) Conference and Award Ceremony in Lagos. Dr. Chikwe who is also the Grand Patron of Women in Logistics and Transport, WiLAT, commended the progress women have made in the industry but emphasized the need for further efforts to enhance their presence.

The Federal Government through the Nigerian Ports Authority has handed over the Tincan Island Water System facilities to Sandust Tincan Water Project Limited after it signed a 16-year concession agreement with the firm valued at N11bn. The NPA disclosed that the concessionaire would use this year to rebuild and rehabilitate the facility before the agreement would officially kick off on September 1, 2025. In a bid to facilitate trade and enhance the Ease of Doing Business in the Nigerian Port industry, the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has commenced the implementation of Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) programme benefits for the first set of approved Importers, Exporters, SMEs, Customs Licensed Brokers and Logistics Operators. In a statement by the Spokesman of the Customs Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, a Chief Superintendent of Customs the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi said that this landmark initiative introduces new standards in line with global best practices, aiming to enhance trade facilitation, ameliorate existing difficulties within the supply chain and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global trading community.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Area 2 Command, Onne, Rivers has confiscated 12 containers laden with military/paramilitary equipment and illicit drugs worth N31 billion. Its Comptroller-General, Mr Bashir Adeniyi, stated this while briefing newsmen at Onne, Rivers. The seized items include 4,800 pairs of military/paramilitary camouflage, rain boots, various rubber footwear, chilly cutters and cough syrup with codeine. Others are Tramadol and other illicit drugs, all with a total duty value of N31,200,688,142.
