The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Navy have joined forces to suppress waterway smuggling in Lagos. Comptroller Paul Bamisaiye, in charge of the Nigeria Customs Service, Western Marine Command, during a courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Real Admiral Mustapha Hassan, solicited the support of the Nigerian Navy in tackling smuggling within the waterways. The new Directorate of Cargo Development Services at Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), together with the Aviacargo Roadmap committee has partnered the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS) for increased export. The team was led by the Director Mr. Lekan Thomas and received by Dr. Vincent Isegbe and his team. The Director told the NAQS team , that the Minister of Aviation , Festus Keyamo created the Cargo Directorate to focus on the growth of Air Cargo in Nigeria to contribute Its quota to the economy and move Nigeria’s Position as part of the leading exporting nations in Africa.

The Arakan Military Cantonment has affirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) to safeguard lives and property around Apapa ports’ community and environs. Col. Olusegun Opeyemi, Commander, Arakan Military Cantonment, Apapa, made the pledge when he led his officers to the NSC Headquarters in Lagos. According to him, safeguarding lives and property are paramount to the military, particularly when there is a breakdown of law and order. He said that the military was always ready to render support to the NSC to build security confidence among port users and facilitate trade.

Adegboyega Oyetola, minister of Marine and Blue Economy, has said that the Ministry is ready to facilitate the process that would lead to the realisation of the Badagry Deep Seaport project. The Minister disclosed this in Abuja, during a meeting with Didi Ndiomu, chief executive officer of Badagry Port Development Limited. Oyetola said that the Badagry Deep Seaport project portends immense potential to the Federal Government as it aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s objectives. According to him, the ministry’s policy is tailored in line with the President’s agenda, and so the ministry will do whatever it can to help achieve the Badagry Deep Seaport project.

The leadership of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, has commenced the deployment of its Electronic Call Up system at the Onne Port Complex with a view to enhancing efficiency at the Eastern Ports. Recall that the Federal Executive Council approved the deployment of the call up system to Onne port complex. Disclosing this when the Executive team of the Call Up Technology Services Limited and Forge Concepts Limited, operators of the electronic solution paid a Pre-Implementation visit to the Managing Director of the NPA.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has assured Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, that he would not allow bureaucracies to slow down the actualisation of the Bakassi Deep Seaport project. In a post via his X handle, an aide to the minister, Ismail Omipidan, quoted the minister to have given the assurance when he received the governor on a courtesy visit to his office. Oyetola noted that the natural depth of the seaport, which the Cross River Government put between 17 to 21 meters deep, would reduce the cost of capital dredging.
