The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been commended by the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise for increase in revenue generation and national security. The committee gave the commendation during an oversight visit to the NCS headquarters in Abuja. Chairman of the committee, Leke Abejide, applauded the outstanding revenue generation, trade facilitation and recent achievements in the seizures of arms and ammunition in Lagos and Rivers State.“Every weapon and illicit item seized is a victory, but every attempt to smuggle them into Nigeria is a call to redouble our efforts,” he said.

President Bola Tinubu sacked Mohammed Bello-Koko and approved the appointment of Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho as the new Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The President has also approved the appointment of Senator Adedayo Adeyeye as Chairman of the Board of NPA. Dantsoho holds a Doctorate degree in Maritime Technology from Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom, and a Master’s degree in International Transport from Cardiff University of Wales, United Kingdom.

The Mission to Seafarers (MTS) plans to establish a designated jetty in Lagos to improve access to its centre for the over 3,000 seafarers visiting the port annually. Chief Adebayo Sarumi, Chairman of MTS Lagos, disclosed this during the Annual Sea Sunday Service and award ceremony at All Souls’ Anglican Church, Lekki, Lagos. Sarumi highlighted that the jetty would complement the recent partnership with the Nigerian Navy FOC Command and other maritime agencies. He expressed delight at the increased patronage by seafarers since the Apapa facility was enhanced to global best standards.

To avert severe congestion by articulated trucks and improve the efficiency of logistics operations within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor, the Lagos State government, in collaboration with the Call Up technology, has announced the commencement of the electronic-call up system for managing truck movements within the axis from next month. The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement by a Deputy Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Ministry of Transport, Bolanle Ogunlola, stated that the move is driven by the urgent need to implement a sustainable, effective and technology-driven solution of truck movement in the Lekki-Epe Corridor..

Five years after the inauguration of the Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu launched the first shipment of Nigerian export to five African countries under the Guided Trade Initiative, GTI. Speaking at the ceremony, President Tinubu also said that the agreement would ignite the flame of opportunity, foster economic ties and pave the way for progress and shared prosperity for our great nation, in the entire African continent. According to the President, the AfCFTA is not just an agreement but a trade agreement that bound to build Africa’s industrialization and the prosperity for Africans.

The Customs Area Controller, CAC Tin Can Island Port, TCIP Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, has revealed that the Time Release Study, TRS, would be ready and unveiled to the international trade community in September this year. The World Customs Organisation, WCO assisted TRS was launched in TCIP in February 2024 to determine the length of time it takes to clear a cargo at the port. Speaking at a media briefing to announce TCIP command’s activities for the Half Year 2024 in Lagos, Nnadi who is supervising the ongoing TRS said his officers and men encountered several challenges during the course of the study.
