The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has launched the operational manual for inland dry port projects. The launching took place in Jos. The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of NSC, Mr Akutah Pius, made this known in a statement he issued. He said that the council had played a pivotal role in ensuring the development of inland dry ports across designated locations in the country. He said that the Jos Inland Dry in Heipang was one of the dry port projects being facilitated by the NSC to bring shipping facilities to shippers in the hinterlands.“It is also to create employment opportunities for citizens and accrue substantial revenue to the government,” he said.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, has been described as best Agency of Government in exemplary teamwork, quality service delivery and consistency. This was made known by Special Adviser to Nigerian President on the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, PEBRC, Dr Jumoke Oduwole.President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s special adviser on PEBEC, also announced the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy as the overall Best performing Ministry in the country.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has sought partnership with the United Arab Emirates, UAE on the Ibom Deep Seaport project, aimed at transforming the state into a major maritime hub. During a courtesy visit to the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, Governor Eno also announced his intention to collaborate with the UAE in areas like agriculture, healthcare, education, and security.

The Manager, Health, Safety and Environment for APM Terminals Apapa, Felix Ugwuagbo, has said that the terminal operator partnered with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to create awareness on the negative effects of illicit drugs on society. Speaking at the 2024 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a lecture, Ugwuagbo stated: “At APM Terminals, we have a strict policy against the use of illicit drugs by our employees, contractors and truckers who visit the terminal, as this can endanger safe operations. This lecture is a great opportunity to educate the Apapa community and other stakeholders of the negative impact illicit drug use has on individuals, families and communities.

The Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association, NMNO/WTSSA, have decried the non-availability of a multilateral agreement between Nigerian and other maritime countries, a development that denied thousands of Nigerian seafarers’ employment in the seafaring sub-sector of the Nigerian maritime industry. Speaking at the just concluded World Seafarers Day celebration in Lagos, President of the group, Engr. Joseph Yousuo, disclosed that Ghana has mutual agreement with almost 30 maritime communities hence the recognition of Ghana’s Certificate of Competence.

Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy has commissioned two newly acquired 80 tons bollard pull tugboats deployed to enhance the berthing of vessels at the Dangote Refinery and Lekki Deep Seaport. Christened MT IRAGBIJI and MT BAMA, the vessels are expected to support port security, patrol, and surveillance and to deliver efficient pilotage and towage services that would help the growing cargo evacuation needs of the Lekki maritime corridor.
