LASG Shuts Jetties, Terminals Along Five Cowries Creek For Boat Racing Championship

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), says all private and commercial jetties/terminals along the Five Cowries Creek will be closed from Oct. 3, to, Oct.5. LASWA General Manager, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said this in a statement on Monday in Lagos. Emmanuel announced to the general public, ferry operators, passengers, and all stakeholders in the waterways sector. “This temporary closure is to facilitate the successful hosting of the E1 Championship, the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament, with the Lagos series scheduled to take place along the five Cowries Creek during this period.

NCS Introduces A One-Stop Shop To Minimise Cargo Clearance Time

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has officially introduced its One-Stop-Shop, OSS initiative, a major reform expected to reduce cargo clearance time to 48 hours. The initiative was unveiled during a meeting with NCS Management and Customs Area Controllers in Abuja. The meeting, chaired by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, brought together senior officers to deliberate on the Service’s modernisation agenda and the role of leadership in driving reforms across commands. Adeniyi described the OSS as a “transformative shift” in line with global best practices and the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business policy. He stressed that the reform is designed to sanitise operations, reduce duplication of efforts, and ensure predictability in Customs procedures.

Gold Star’s First LNG-Powered Containership, MV Sapphire, Berths at APM Terminals

The Lagos Port Complex, Apapa, witnessed a landmark moment as Gold Star Line’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered containership, the MV Sapphire, berthed at APM Terminals. The vessel, built in 2024 and sailing under the flag of Singapore, has a carrying capacity of 7,800 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). With her size and advanced LNG propulsion system, the MV Sapphire represents a significant step forward in sustainable shipping operations serving Nigeria and the wider West African region. Speaking at the event, Todd Rives, Managing Director of Lagos and Niger Shipping Agency Limited (LANSAL), which represents Gold Star Line in Nigeria, described the berthing as a historic milestone. He recalled that Gold Star Line, incorporated in 1958, remains one of the oldest shipping agencies operating in Nigeria, with a longstanding commitment to customer service.

The Shippers’ Association of Lagos State (SALS) has elected Mr. Nicodemus Olorunshola Odolo as its new President, following a keenly contested election held in Lagos on Thursday. He takes over from Barr. Leonard Ogamba, the former President of the association. Odolo polled nine votes to defeat Princess (Mrs.) Mulikat Fehintola Sanni, who secured two votes. His election ushers in a new leadership era for SALS, with promises of reforms aimed at strengthening the association’s relevance in the maritime sector. Other officers returned unopposed include Mrs Ngozi Modebelu of WACTAF Association as Vice President after Dr Farinto Collins Kayode stepped down. Mr Ganni Alli Shobande emerged as Secretary General, Wilson Osim as Financial Secretary, and Mr Ike Nwago as Publicity Secretary.

IMO Secretary-General Commends Nigeria’s Maritime Security Gains, Deep Blue Project, Blue Economy Policy

The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Mr Arsenio Domínguez, has commended Nigeria for its achievements in maritime security and sustainable blue economy development, describing the country’s record of zero piracy incidents in more than three years as a significant milestone for the Gulf of Guinea region. Mr Domínguez, who arrived in Nigeria, made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, in Abuja. He noted that Nigeria’s investment in maritime safety infrastructure, as well as the coordination among security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Navy, has contributed to improved safety within Nigeria’s waters and the Gulf of Guinea.

Nigeria@ 65: FG Records Over 40% Growth In Rail And Water Transport

The Federal Government has recorded tremendous progress in rail and water transportation in the last 28 months, President Bola Tinubu said the development underscores sustained investments in rail lines, inland waterways, and supporting infrastructure. Tinubu said this in his goodwill message to Nigerians as the nation marks its 65th Independence Anniversary. Tinubu noted that the achievement reflected progress in diversifying Nigeria’s transport system beyond reliance on road networks to water and rails. “This administration is expanding transport infrastructure across the country, covering rail, roads, airports, and seaports. “Rail and water transport grew by over 40 per cent and 27 per cent, respectively.
