The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has commended the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Pius Akutah on the remarkable achievements recorded in protecting the interests of Nigerian shippers and the maritime industry.
APFFLON in a statement issued by its National President, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, described the reported prevention of over ₦86 billion in demurrage losses and the recovery of an additional ₦4.54 billion through the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism as a laudable milestone.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has intensified its campaign against stowaways by taking public awareness initiatives to riverine communities in Lagos.
This is made known in a statement issued on Monday in Lagos by the Head of its Public Relations Department, Mr Edward Osagie.
According to Osagie, a NIMASA team visited Snake Island, Lagos, where it engaged community leaders, youths and residents on the dangers and legal consequences of stowing away on vessels.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has seized ₦26,569,847,771 worth of Cannabis Indica weighing 4,143.5 kilograms.
Controller of the command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba said the drugs were seized during a routine examination with the personnel of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Command’s Enforcement Unit on Friday.
Oshoba said based on credible intelligence with the NDLEA, the 1×40ft container number FANU1933352, was subjected to thorough examination which resulted in the discovery of the illicit drugs.

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has confirmed the vandalisation of one of its safety and patrol surveillance fibre boats operating along the Katcha-Baro-Nupeko, Patigi and Lafiagi waterways in Niger and Kwara states.
Mr Akapo Adeboye, NIWA Area Manager for Niger and Kwara Area Office, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Minna, describing the incident as a disturbing attack on government property.

The Lagos State Government has commenced the Project Management, Operations and Design (PMOD) Consultancy for the Omi Eko Project, a major step towards the implementation of its ambitious water transportation initiative aimed at transforming inland water mobility across the state.
Speaking at the PMOD Consultancy kick-off meeting held in Lagos on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, described the commencement of the consultancy as a critical milestone in the delivery of a modern, efficient and sustainable water transport system for millions of Lagos residents.
