NSC secures over N900m terminal storage waiver for TCN at APM Terminals

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, through its Complaints Unit, has successfully secured a terminal storage and demurrage waiver valued at over ₦900 million from APM Terminals Apapa in favour of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.


Representing the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Mr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, the Head, Complaints Unit, Dr. Ambi Bashir Mohammed, stated that the intervention further reinforces the Council’s statutory mandate as Nigeria’s designated Maritime and Commercial Shipping Dispute Resolution Agency under the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

At the just-concluded meeting of Managing Directors of Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA), which held in Lagos, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho disclosed that the Federal Government of Nigeria has completed approvals, certifications and compliance processes for five proposed deep seaport projects for investment and implementation.


He went further to identify the proposed seaports as:  Badagry Deep Seaport in Lagos State, Olokola Deep Seaport in Ondo State, Ibom Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom State, Bakassi Deep Sea port in Cross River State and Bonny Deep Seaport in Rivers State.

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, has reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to advancing regional maritime integration, cooperation and capacity development across Africa. Dr. Mobereola made this known when he received the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Liberia in Lagos, Mr. Dapo Akinosun, SAN, at the Agency’s headquarters in Lagos. The NIMASA DG described the meeting as a reflection of the longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship between Nigeria and Liberia, particularly within the maritime sector.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, says the long-anticipated Ibom Deep Seaport project has moved closer to implementation following fresh federal approvals, marking a significant milestone in the state’s push to become a major maritime and logistics hub in Nigeria.


Speaking during his third anniversary address titled “Promises Made and Promises Fulfilled: Onward to Arise 2.0”, Eno said the project remains central to his administration’s economic diversification agenda.

Grimaldi Agency Nigeria has issued a clarification regarding reports concerning the sale of empty shipping containers by Grimaldi Deep Sea S.p.A. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Grimaldi Agency Nigeria said claims suggesting that the seller was liable for customs duties following the sale of a few empty containers are inaccurate and inconsistent with the terms of sales.


The company also refuted reports that it sold 2,500 empty containers, describing such claims as false and unsupported by facts. According to the company, empty containers were sold strictly in their international customs status, commonly referred to as a “foreign customs position”, and were not transferred as domesticated equipment intended for local use within Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle has called for greater collaboration among African navies and the deployment of advanced technologies to tackle maritime crimes and strengthen security across the continent’s waters.


Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Sea Power for Africa Symposium and Maritime Exhibition in Lagos on Tuesday, Matawalle said the transnational nature of maritime threats requires collective action among African nations to safeguard maritime trade, economic growth and regional stability.


The symposium, organised as part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy brought together naval chiefs, maritime security experts, policymakers and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.
