The management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA and the National Hydrographic Agency are exploring avenues to enhance the use and patronage of locally developed nautical charts and other hydrographic communication tools as part of efforts to advance maritime safety in Nigeria. This formed the thrust of deliberations when the Hydrographer of the Nation, Rear Admiral Olumide Fadahunsi, paid a working visit to the management of NIMASA.

Nigerian and other countries in West and Central Africa have committed over $27 billion to port infrastructure expansion projects aimed at strengthening regional trade integration, improving maritime logistics and driving economic growth across the sub-region.
Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, disclosed this yesterday during the opening of the Mid-Year Session of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa, PMAWCA, in Lagos.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency ( NIMASA) has reiterated it’s commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the Deep Blue Project through strengthened partnerships and continuous capacity development aimed at sustaining maritime security gains in Nigeria’s waters.
Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola stated this in Lagos on Tuesday during the graduation ceremony of 177 personnel trained under the Deep Blue Maritime Security Unit and Command, Control, Communication, Computer and Intelligence (C4i) capability demonstration.
“I wish to reiterate the shared vision to ensure the sustainability of the deep blue project. It is our commitment to strengthening these partnerships for the overall progress of the Nigerian maritime industry, ” he said.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, says Nigeria is expanding its port capacity and implementing major maritime reforms to position the country as a leading trade and logistics hub in West and Central Africa.
Oyetola made the disclosure while declaring open the Mid-Year Session of the Board of Directors of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) on Monday in Lagos.
The meeting which has the theme, “Ports of the Future: Combining Logistical Resilience with Inclusive Community Development”, was well attended by regional maritime stakeholders.
The minister said the Federal Government had approved the development of additional deep seaports across the country to strengthen supply chain resilience and improve Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global maritime industry.

Felix Otuwarikpo, the traditional Ruler of Upata kingdom in Ahoada East, Rivers, has alleged that the elite class is involved in crude oil theft and sabotage in the Niger Delta Region. Otuwarikpo stated this at the opening of the 2026 press week of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers Council.
He said that such organised crime that had become a money spinning business could not be funded or sponsored by poor and uneducated people.
According to him, it is wrong to blame illiteracy and poverty for oil theft, sabotage and environmental pollution in the Niger Delta Region. Otuwaripkpo urged journalists to be more critical in reporting the oil sector in order to expose members of the elite class that sponsored crude oil theft and economic sabotage.

Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, disclosed this during a news conference and handover ceremony on Wednesday in Lagos. Ntadi said the command intercepted 822 loaves of cannabis sativa and cannabis indica, which were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and destruction.
He added that 532 bottles of pharmaceutical products, including codeine and other controlled substances, were also transferred to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). According to him, the seizures were recorded through intelligence-driven operations aimed at combating smuggling, protecting public health and strengthening border security.
Ntadi said officers also seized 10 bales of second-hand clothing, 569 pairs of used adult shoes and 517 pairs of children’s shoes during the operations.
