The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has restated its commitment towards prioritising the non-oil sector in line with the directives of the Federal Government.The Executive Secretary/CEO of NSC, Pius Ukeyima Akutah restated this commitment when he led the agency’s management team on a two-day working visit to Port Harcourt and Onne ports in Rivers State. He said that the council is working hard to actualize the Federal Government’s marching order to diversify the nation’s economy from oil to non-oil sector.

The logistics industrial park as the second phase of the Lekki Port, a signature project of the China China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative in Nigeria, started construction. Constructed by the China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC), the Lekki Deep Sea Port is the largest seaport in Nigeria, and one of the biggest in West Africa. The construction of the port commenced in June 2020, and is designed to handle 1.2 million standard containers annually. This logistics industrial park covers an area of about 40 hectares, which is equivalent to the terminal area of Lekki Port which is already completed. The logistics park is expected to be completed within two years.

Nigeria’s largest container terminal, APM Terminals Apapa has embarked on an awareness campaign on the standard gauge rail line with a rail trip to Ibadan for its customers. About 20 of its customers comprising of importers and exporters, were present on the trip which began from Ebute Metta rail station, Lagos, ending at the Moniya Freight Yard, Ibadan. Last year, the terminal began the evacuation of cargo via the standard gauge rail line from the Lagos Port Complex Apapa to Moniya Freight Yard in Ibadan, Oyo State, to boost the handling of exports and imports imports.

Ahead of the introduction of new export procedure, the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA has said that exporters are now required to fill Nigeria Export Proceeds, NXP, form before export trucks can be allowed into the ports to drop such cargoes. Nigeria Export Proceeds Form is a document that gives authorized export dealers information on the goods for export. Authorized dealers in this case include the
Exporter’s bank, Nigeria Customs Services, Pre Pre-shipment Inspection Agents, etc.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Sanwo-Olu on inaugurated 15 locally built 40 40-passenger ferries to enhance waterways transportation in the state. The ferries named ‘OMIBUS’ were launched in partnership with Caverton Marine, with
the aim of advancing the state’s transport infrastructure, providing a reliable, safe, and efficient mode of transportation for residents in conformity with the global
sustainable development goals. The inauguration of the ferries took place at Badore Badore-Ajah, Lagos. The governor, who inspected the ferries, took a trip from Five Five-Cowrie at Falomo to Badore, Ajah and back.
