Customs Generates N19bn In Four Months

The Nigeria Customs Service says it generated between January to April 2024, the sum of N19,037,442,310, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, representing a 42 percent collection of the revenue target given to the command. Customs Area Controller, Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, Charles Orbih, said the command also intercepted counterfeit $1,250,000 notes,

cryptocurrency machines, and military accessories, which has been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC and the Nigerian Army, respectively. Orbih said the sum generated between January and April 2024 represents a 67 percent increase when compared to the preceding year 2023

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) to foster bilateral relationship for the enhancement of economic growth. The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi led some of his management team to Shenzhen, where he highlighted the significance of bilateral affiliation with China, which, according to him, will boost the two countries’ import export operations and favour the businesses of MSMEs in Nigeria.

NAGAFF Appeals to FG Over Persistent Server Failures, Claims N193 Million Daily Losses

The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has reached out to the Federal Government, urging immediate action against persistent server failures of Web Fontaine; the IT firm responsible for managing the Nigeria Customs Serv ice’s (NCS) automation system. The system’s frequent breakdowns have reportedly caused significant disruptions in trade operations and led substantial financial losses. According to a formal complaint from the association and signed by the National Coordinator of the 100 Percent Compliance Committee of NAGAFF, Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim, which was addressed to the Minister of Finance.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola has assured maritime stakeholders, particularly shipowners, that the ministry is exploring fiscal and trade policies to promote greater participation of Nigerians in the shipping industry. Oyetola while speaking at a stakeholders engagement with shipowners and operators held at Eko Hotels in Lagos said that a major part of the Ministry’s plan, is to unlock the $700million controversial Cabotage Vessel Finance Fund (CVFF) for disbursement to support the growth and development of shipping businesses in the country .

The Federal Government of Nigeria and other shareholders and investors of Nigeria’s first deep seaport, Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL) have concluded plans on the next phase of development of the port. Customs Board Confirms Appointment Of 5 DCGs, 8 ACGs

The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB), confirmed the appointment of five (5) Deputy Comptrollers General (DCGs) and eight (8) Assistant Comptrollers General (ACGs) of Customs during its 59th regular meeting. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, disclosed this during a meeting at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Abuja The appointments are as follows: Deputy Comptrollers General (DCGs), OO Peters DCG /Commander Training and Doctrine Command (rtd); BM Ji bo (DCG enforcement inspection & investigation); BU Nwafor (DUG excise, free trade zone & industrial incentives); SA Bomai DCG (Commander Training and Doctrine Command); CK Niagwan (DCG Tariff & Trade).
