Nigerian maritime stakeholders and authorities have concluded plans to understudy the Chinese waterways transport model with a view to perfecting Nigeria’s waterways transportation system. In a bid to streamline operations and enhance accountability within the Nigerian ports system, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has announced plans to enforce registration for port service providers and users who have failed to register on the council’ s online portal by third quarter of 2024. Speaking during a sensitization programme for stakeholders on the registration of regulated port service providers and users at the Council Headquarters in Lagos, the Executive Secretary of the Council; Barr. Pius Akutah elucidated on the significance of adherence to the online registration requirements by all service providers in the port. He added that this regulation is in line with the duties of the NSC as enshrined in section four of its 2015 regulation

Joe Kramek brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, from both the maritime sector and government service. Before stepping into the position of President & CEO, Joe Kramek served as the WSC’s Director of U.S. Government
Relations. His professional journey includes twenty eight years as a commissioned officer with the U.S. Coast Guard, where he spent time at sea and as the Chief of Maritime, International, and Environmental Law. Notably, Kramek led the U.S. Delegation to the International Maritime Organization’s Legal Committee during his Coast Guard tenure.

The Nigerian Ports Authority says has secured a $700m loan from Citibank for the rehabilitation of the Apapa and Tincan Island Ports in Lagos. The loan was funded by the UK Export Finance, an export credit agency, Announcing this in a statement, the NPA said it had also opened discussions with another funding agency to finance the upgrading of the Eastern Ports including Calabar, Warri, Onne, and Rivers Ports as well as the reconstruction of Escravos Breakwater.
