The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it generated more than N1.3 trillion revenue in the first quarter of 2024. The Comptroller General (C G) of NCS, Adewale Adeniyi, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on its activities in the first quarter of 2024, in Abuja. “The total revenue collected during this period amounted to N1,347,675,608,972.75. “The collection for t he first quarter represents a substantial increase of 122.35 per cent compared to the same period last year, where N606,119,935,146.67 was collected,” he said.

THE National Association of Maritime Transport Operators, NAMTOP has called on the management of the Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC, to extend the same review of rate it has granted operators in the Eastern ports. In a letter dated March 29th, 2024, and addressed to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC, President of NAMTOP, Mr. Adisa Moshood commended the leadership of the Council for its recent engagement of stakeholders in the
Eastern Ports adding that fair and sustainable haulage rate that will benefit all stakeholders in the maritime industry industry.

The Federal Government has inaugurated a newly constructed 6,000 TEU capacity private Jetty and Container Terminal in Apapa, Lagos. Mr Mohammed Bello Koko, the Managing Director of the NPA, who commended the project during the inaugural ceremony on Monday, said it would boost the ease of doing business in the country. The private project is financed and handled by Beachland Consultium
Ltd. (BCTL), which consists of three companies. Bello Koko, represented by Mr Sylvester Egede, Port Manager at Tincan, said that the facility was designed to enhance business activities in Nigeria and advance global trade practices.

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has approved a reduction of Customs import duty by 0.69 percent following a new rate of N1,238.17 to one $1 from a previously approved rate of N1,246.66 to one $1. The newly approved duty rate was observed on the Customs trade portal o on April 10th. Which also fell below the official foreign exchange rate, which closed at N1,248.5/$ on April 9 at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM). The drop in the FX rate for customs tariffs and duties is coming amid the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, effort to stabilise the naira. On April 8, the apex bank announced the sales of forex to the bureau de change (BDC) operators at the rate of N1,10 1/$.

The Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Arsenio Dominguez has commended Nigeria for its gold standard in the enhancing maritime security and capacity building in the Gulf of Guinea (GOG) region. According to the IMO boss, global seafarers and leading shipping nations have give n satisfactory remarks about the maritime domain, especially on security in Nigeria following some initiatives championed by Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA)

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Maritime Command, Mrs Rhoda Olofu, has felicitated Muslims on their Eid el Fitr celebration, urging Commissioners of Police and other officers deployed to maritime to secure it. This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Rowland Ehinmode, in Lagos. The AIG appealed to all Muslims to remember the teachings,
sacrifices, love and other virtues that Ramadan represented. Olofu urged them to collaborate with security agencies operating in riverine areas to ensure a safe, peaceful and secure environment.
