Customs Clinches National Award Of Excellence In Regulatory Compliance

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has won the Award of Excellence in Regulatory Compliance. It was given by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). According to Yusha’u Shu’aibu, the Managing Director and CEO of Image Marchant Promotion Limited, the recognition underscores the NCS’s commitment to upholding regulatory standards and fostering effective communication practices within the organisation. The award was received by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, a distinguished figure of the Institute who served as the Vice President of the Institute and the longest serving National Public Relations Officer (NPRO) in the history of the Service.

APM Terminals Apapa has begun the recycling of used lubricants and discarded Personal Protective Equipment such as boilersuits and reflective jackets. This is in

partnership with Kevron Consulting certified by the relevant authority in Lagos State. The terminal made this known, ahead of the International Day of Zero Waste celebrations on March 30. Health and Safety Manager, Felix Ugwuagbo said, “We understand the need to monitor the disposal of our used lubricants after their use.

Tin Can Customs Sensitizes Officers, Stakeholders on Current Trends in Management of Cargo

The Nigeria Customs Service, Tin-can Island Port Command, has organised a lecture on the current trends in cargo management at the port. The lecture, organised for releasing, staff and examination officers and stakeholders held recently at the Command. The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, noted that the lecture, is in compliance with the directives of the headquarters of the service. According to him, cargo examination is the bedrock of customs operations at the port. “The idea is to compare the physical content of the container with documentary submission by the declarant or the importer”.

The Nigerian maritime industry faced a lot of challenges in the first quarter of the year due to soaring container freight rates that emanated from disruption in shipping caused by the tension in the Red Sea, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s unstable exchange rate on Customs import duty, new surcharges introduced by shipping lines among others. It was not business as usual early in the year for shipping lines, importers and exporters as the Red Sea became a hotbed of

aggression for Yemen’s Iran backed Houthi group, who were attacking vessels sailing to Nigerian ports and other destinations in the world, making the shippers to incur huge surcharges on their cargoes.

Customs Generates N1.34tr, Seizes N10.59bn Goods In First Quarter

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated the sum of N1.34 trillion and seized goods worth N10.59 billion in the first quarter of 2024, its Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has said. Speaking on NCS’ first quarter activities in Abuja, Adeniyi said the first quarter revenue represents a substantial increase of 122.35% compared to the same period last year. “Total revenue collected during this period amounted to N1,347,675,608,972.75.

Freight Forwarders Reject New Haulage Rates For Eastern Ports

Clearing agents under the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria have rejected the new haulage rates for Eastern seaports approved by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council. In a recent statement, the National President of A PFFLON, Frank Ogunojemite, said that the newly approved rates do not reflect the current reality. Recall that the NSC recently disclosed that it had

approved reviewed haulage rates from Eastern ports to various destinations in the country.
