The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola has called for collective efforts by stakeholders to harness the potential of the country’s maritime sector. Emphasising the significance of the country’s maritime sector, Oyetola, urged stakeholders to work together to fully utilise its potential. Oyetola made this statement during the presentation of the book “Nigeria and the Global Maritime Industry” authored by Moses Fadipe, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Port Standing Task Team. Oyetola, who was represented at the event by Mr. Olayinka Olusanya, commended Fadipe as a front-runner dedicated to national interests, emphasising his valuable contributions to the maritime sector.

Tincan Customs Seize Ammunition, Hard Drugs

The Nigeria Customs Service, Tincan Island Chapter, said it seized a total of 11 rifles and six pump action guns from January to date. The Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Dera Nnadi, who disclosed this while addressing journalists, said that the seizures were a product of collaboration with sister agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. “These were all seized from some containers. On the whole, the total number of rifles were 11 and pistols six,” he said. Nandi added that in recent times, the command also seized psychotropic substances.

Marine, Blue Economy Ministry Moves To Increase Eastern Port Vessel Traffic

Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, said it’s poised to provide the facilitation and advocacy required to grow the vessel traffic to the Eastern port. Speaking at the commissioning of 4.8km road and Marine craft at Onne port, Rivers State, the minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, disclosed that deepening efficiencies and full capacity utilization of the Eastern ports constitutes

one of the tools deployed to achieve the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) assigned to the ministry under the Presidential Performance Bond. Recall that the Eastern ports comprised of ports in Onne, Rivers Warri and Calabar.

NPA Workers Threaten To Shut Port Over 50% IGR Deduction Deduction

Senior and junior workers of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) yesterday issued a seven day ultimatum to the Federal Government to reverse the presidential directive on automatic deduction of 50 per cent from its internally generated revenue (IGR) or they would shut the ports. This was contained in a letter signed by the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporation and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) and Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN). In the letter, the workers sought urgent reversal of the policy, insisting that if not curtailed, it would lead to irreversible industrial action and closure of the

business at the ports
