Onne Customs Command beats Apapa, collects N22.1bn in one day

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Port Harcourt II Area Command, Onne, Rivers State on March 7 raked in an unprecedented N22.1 billion in revenue. The amount, which is N6.1 billion higher than the N16 billion record set by the Apapa Area Command on 23rd February, is the highest daily revenue collection by any Customs command in the history of the service. The Controller of the Command, Comptroller Baba Imam, said the record revenue haul was made possible by constant engagement with stakeholders, zero tolerance for leakages, intelligence sharing and continuous insistence on trade compliance.

NIWA Unveils Quarterly Inspection Of Boat Operators To Safeguard Lagos Inland Waterways

To ensure safety and regulation on Lagos inland waterways, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has revealed plans to conduct quarterly inspections of Boat operators to ensure only qualified and well-maintained boats are permitted to operate in the state. Speaking at a safety sensitization program held for boat captains and deck hands at the NIWA Lagos Area Office over the weekend, NIWA Managing Director, Hon Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji who was represented by the Manager, Lagos Area Office, Engr Sarat Braimah, noted that NIWA strategically zoned patrols cover Ikorodu, Epe, and Badagry.

Nigeria’s economic landscape witnessed a continued reliance on key international partners in the fourth quarter of 2023, as imports from Singapore, China and India, played a pivotal role in meeting the nation’s import demands. This is according to the latest report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), obtained by our correspondent. The report revealed that import values surged to N14.3 billion, while export value stood at N12.69 billion. Among the top import sources, Singapore emerged as a dominant player, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s import basket.

Nigeria Secures $1.3bn Funding For Rail Link To Niger Republic

Nigeria has secured $1.3 billion in funding to complete a railway project connecting Kano, the largest city in the north, to Maradi in neighbouring Niger, the transport ministry said. The railway line will build on existing economic and social ties to boost trade and cultural cooperation between the two countries .Funding will come from a consortium led by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), which will contribute 85% of the total, the transport ministry said in a statement. The remaining 15% will be covered by the

Nigerian government alongside institutions like the Africa Export Import Bank and African Development Bank Bank.

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has launched a registration portal for providers and users of port services operating at Onne Port, Rivers State. NSC Executive Secretary, Barr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, said that the launching of the portal was in line wit h the mandates the council to register all regulated service providers and users operating at the nation’s seaports. The NSC boss was represented by the Director, South South Zone, Glory Onajedo. Akutah

described the launching of the portal as a milestone. He said the portal provides a database of service providers, as well as “genuine” shippers and other stakeholders operating at the ports
