Nigeria Grants 90-Days Grace to Improperly Imported Vehicles

The Nigerian Government through its Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the economy has directed the management of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, to allow importers of vehicles not properly imported a grace period of 90 days to regularise their trade documents and clear their vehicles. In a statement, the agency’s Spokesman, Mr. Maiwada Abdullahi, a Chief Superintendent of Customs said that the initiative applies solely to vehicles imported into Nigeria where the requisite customs duty has not been fulfilled or vehicles detained due to undervaluation.

Nigeria Loses $15b To Ship Chandling, Allied Services Yearly

The President of the Nigerian Licensed Ship Chandlers Association, Dr Martins Enebeli, has said the country loses $15 billion on ship chandling and allied services yearly due to harsh operating environment, inadequate access to capital, activities of government agencies and other bureaucratic processes making it difficult for Nigerian ship chandlers to compete with the foreign counterparts. Enebeli said the ship chandling practice is regulated via the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) Section 74 as w ell as the Nigerian content law that has 95 per cent local participation and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency

(NIMASA) Act Act.

NPA announces $1bn reconstruction plan for port complexes across Nigeria

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced a $1 billion reconstruction plan for Tincan Island, Apapa, Rivers, Onne, Warri, and Calabar port complexes. The NPA also allocated funds for similar reconstruction as part of the new port development plan for the Badagry deep seaport, Snake Island, Burutu, and Ondo deep seaports.
