The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has stepped up moves to sanction stakeholders violating the Port Standard Operating Procedures (PSO) along the Lekki Port corridor, as part of efforts to improve port efficiency, safety and seamless cargo movement.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at Lekki Port, the Port Manager, Mr Emmanuel Anda, warned that stakeholders found contravening established rules and regulations governing port operations would face sanctions.

The push to transform Nigeria’s maritime sector into a low-carbon industry will require a shift from policy commitments to the development of bankable green infrastructure projects, APM Terminals Nigeria has said.
The company called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, industry players, investors and development partners to unlock financing for sustainable infrastructure capable of driving the sector’s decarbonisation and strengthening Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) will host a two-part stakeholder webinar on 6 and 8 October 2026 to showcase the ongoing automation of the Nigerian Ship Registry, as part of efforts to modernise ship registration services and enhance the competitiveness of the Nigerian flag.
The webinars will provide shipowners, operators, maritime professionals, financial institutions, insurers and other stakeholders with insights into the new digital registration platform and its potential to significantly improve the speed, transparency and efficiency of ship registration and related services.

The Chairman of Blue Diamond Logistics China, Festus Uzoma Mbisiogu, has called for urgent reforms in the processing of debit notes at Nigerian ports, saying importers should not have to wait two or three days to complete additional payments required for the release of their cargo.
Mbisiogu, who spoke in Lagos at the 20th anniversary celebration of Blue Diamond Logistics China, argued that the debit-note process should be completed within one or two hours once an importer has been assessed and directed to make additional payment.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is taking its export facilitation drive deeper into the hinterland with plans to integrate Inland Dry Ports (IDPs) into the nation’s port operations, a move the Authority says will reduce logistics bottlenecks for exporters and unlock greater foreign exchange earnings from non-oil exports.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, disclosed this at the Authority’s Special Day during the 21st Abuja International Trade Fair, where he said exporters in northern and central Nigeria would no longer need to move raw commodities to coastal ports before completing key port clearance and documentation processes.

The Federal Government’s decision to transfer the management and operational responsibilities of Inland Dry Ports (IDPs) from the Nigerian Ports Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA) to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has triggered divergent reactions among maritime stakeholders, with some questioning the capacity of the NPA to assume the additional responsibility while dry-port operators see the move as an opportunity to strengthen seaport-hinterland connectivity.
